The androgynous, non-binary Black pop artist brings a louder and more assertive energy to the new track, moving into Neo-Disco territory while drawing inspiration from the sounds and performers that have influenced Frost throughout their life.
Written by Jourdan Frost and Marlon Wurmitzer, whilst it has been produced by Velvet Code, “Rock n Roll” takes a different musical direction from Frost’s earlier releases, embracing a high-energy sound that combines elements of 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s disco and house with a contemporary production style. The result is a bold, dance-driven track that feels deliberately bigger and more commanding.
Combining disco and house influences from multiple decades and bringing them into 2026, “Rock n Roll” lands in all the right ways, blending its inspirations from the past with a modern mainstream anthem—we expect nothing less when it’s Velvet Code listed as the producer. Jourdan Frost’s vocals shine with richness and an anthemic quality, while the lyrics explore the pursuit of fame and success in the entertainment industry, highlighting the demanding nature of the “fast lane” lifestyle and the sacrifices, hard work, and resilience required to achieve greatness. For Jourdan Frost, the new single represents where they are as an artist at this point in their career. “I wanted the song to be an authentic view to who I am as an artist today,” Frost says. “I view myself as a brand and a future staple in popular music and LGBT spaces. One day this song will be a great depiction of that.”
While “Rock n Roll” is built for the dance floor, its subject matter goes beyond simply creating an energetic pop record. The song delves into the reality of trying to balance a corporate career, music, and a personal life, drawing from Frost’s own experiences of managing several competing demands.
“I wanted to do something that would resonate beyond the dance floor,” Frost says. “While writing and recording this song, I had in my head, ‘write something that you can sing twenty years from now and it will still be a crowd pleaser.’”
The track also reflects Frost’s appreciation for some of the biggest names in disco and popular music history. Tina Turner, Donna Summer, and Diana Ross are among the key influences behind the record, with Frost particularly inspired by the performers’ ability to command an audience.
There are also visual and stylistic nods towards Rock N Roll icons including Little Richard and Sylvester, artists who have been part of Frost’s musical influences since childhood.
That connection to performance began at an early age. Frost grew up singing in church before discovering that their voice could become part of a much bigger artistic journey.
“When I was a kid, singing in church meant everything to me,” Frost recalls. “After winning my high school pageant, I thought, ‘okay, people seem to like my voice.’”
Frost continued developing their identity as a performer during college, taking their talents to LGBTQ nightclubs, talent shows, Pride festivals, and radio competitions. Those experiences helped Frost learn how to transform their vocal ability into a complete stage presence.
“[Performing] basically anywhere I could,” they say. “I always knew I could sing and dance, but I taught myself how to perform, and today, once I have the attention of an audience, the stage is mine.”
That determination has become particularly significant following a near-fatal car accident that Frost survived seven years ago. The experience left lasting physical scars and also gave the artist a renewed perspective on making the most of the opportunities in front of them.
“It’s a reminder that in the blink of an eye, you could be gone,” Frost says, “so if you’re passionate about your career, your dreams, or anything in life, give it your all today.”
“Rock n Roll” follows Jourdan Frost’s previous singles “Can We Pretend”, “Seaside” anf “House Party”, as well as their debut EP, “Beginning”. However, the new single appears to be just the beginning of a larger musical chapter. Frost is currently working towards a bigger body of music, although the final format has yet to be decided between another EP and a full-length album.
“We’re trying to determine if it’s going to be an EP or a full album,” Frost says. “Fans can definitely look forward to more music!”
For now, Frost’s biggest obstacle is finding enough time to bring those plans to life while balancing their music career with a demanding corporate job. The artist acknowledges that the process is still developing, describing the project in terms that also reflect their own journey. “Just like me, it’s a work in progress,” they add.
With “Rock n Roll” now available to download and stream across all platforms, via So Fierce Music and The Orchard, Jourdan Frost is introducing a more confident and ambitious side of their artistry, combining disco and house influences with a distinctly modern pop approach. It also establishes a clear intention for what could be an exciting next phase as Frost continues building their place within contemporary pop and LGBTQ+ music spaces.
