Celebrated singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Janie Price, known as Bird, is embracing the memory of recording this track during the festive season with the release of “Falling Like Stars (2024 Remaster)”. This heartfelt single, originally featured on her debut album “The Insides”, marks its re-release on December 5, 2024, in celebration of the album’s 20th anniversary.

The reimagined track, available on all major streaming platforms, captures the same magic Bird felt during its creation just days before Christmas two decades ago. Co-written with award-winning songwriter Einar Tonsberg, the single carries an emotional depth that has resonated with listeners over the years.

A Creation Full of Challenges and Magic

The story behind “Falling Like Stars” is as enchanting as the song itself. Recorded at the now-legendary Chocolate Factory studio in London, the track came to life in a whirlwind of resourcefulness and creativity. Bird and Einar faced a power outage during a late-night session, forcing them to buy fairy lights and pizza from a local Sainsbury’s store. With their makeshift lighting strung across the studio piano and accompanied by Einar’s three-string guitar, the pair captured the magic of the moment on an old tape dictaphone.

Clean, crisp vocals grab the listener’s attention in this 2024 remaster, something we’ve come to expect from this incredible singer-songwriter, Bird. Her awesome voice is accompanied by an acoustic backing track which includes gorgeous guitar chords and stunning violin segments, but it’s the heart-filled lyrics that truly catch us in the feels. Bird’s emotion is undeniable and this track is both mesmerising and unforgettable. Compared with her original release, 20 years ago, this one is much more clean and crisp, allowing Bird to show off her inflexion and meaning of the lyrics, and also allows the instruments and the rhythms, that make up the addicting melody, to truly shine.

Reflecting on the song’s origins, Bird shared, “Some songs take weeks of planning, tweaking, coaxing gently into shape and some are born as if not even from the writers… I love those ones, they feel like magical gifts, like they are written by the universe, and as artists, we’re just the conduit to realise the idea.”

She continued by saying, “As it was so close to Christmas I was thinking a lot about the family I didn’t have around me, about the lost friends I wouldn’t be able to spend another Christmas with and about how it would be if we ever got to meet again one day.”

She elaborated further, by saying, “When this song was first released, a fan wrote to me to tell me he had played the song while his child was sick in hospital and it had helped them. I felt very humbled to have been able, thanks to this song, to support them. I hope this remaster, which has for me, really sonically brought the track to life—thanks to Sam John (Precise Mastering)—continues to bring peace, healing and maybe even a little joy…especially at this time of year when we miss the people we can’t be with the most..”

A Dedicated Reminiscent Music Video

Alongside the release of the track, is a black-and-white visual which is dedicated to John Dominic. In the official music video for the 2024 remaster, we watch the pages of a photo book being flipped. The images showcase a variety of people, enjoying life and spending time together, and eagle-eyed viewers can spot Bird in these images where she looks slightly younger, and so we can only presume that these photos were taken around the same time as that of the writing and recording of the original track.

A Multi-Talented Artist With Global Reach

Bird’s illustrious career spans classical music training, session work, and collaborations with prominent artists, including Emeli Sandé, Vanessa Mae, and Hooverphonic. She has also contributed her talents to projects involving The Rolling Stones’ Darryl Jones and Manic Street Preachers’ James Dean Bradfield, among others.

Currently based between Tuscany and London, Bird continues to push creative boundaries. This winter, she will join her friend Daan Stuyven on his Belgian tour, performing alongside him on December 11 at Brussels’ La Botanique, December 13 at Brugge’s Cactus Club, and December 14 and 18 at Leuven Depot, respectively.
