Singer-songwriter Andie Case is embracing the less polished side of personal growth with her latest single, “Loser”, which arrived on Friday as the second release from her forthcoming debut EP, “Show Me Yours, I’ll Show You Mine”. Following the previously released “Better Days”, the new track takes an honest look at failure, insecurity, and the determination to keep going when life does not quite turn out as expected.

Written by Andie Case, Ajay Marshall, Prince Fox, and Mitchy Collins, whilst it has been produced by Stetson Whitworth, “Loser” centres on the complicated emotions that can come with feeling as though you have fallen short. Rather than attempting to disguise those moments of doubt, Case uses the song to acknowledge them, creating a track that recognises how difficult it can be to maintain confidence when setbacks begin to pile up.

There is, however, a sense of optimism running underneath the vulnerability. While “Loser” does not shy away from disappointment, it also refuses to suggest that a difficult period has to determine what happens next. Instead, Andie Case focuses on the idea that losing, failing, or simply not being where you hoped you would be can all become part of a much bigger journey.

That perspective carries particular weight given Andie Case’s own experiences. She left home at 18 to pursue music in Los Angeles and faced significant uncertainty while attempting to establish herself as an artist, including periods when she lived out of her car. Music had already provided an important sense of escape and identity during her childhood, making her decision to pursue a career in the industry an enormous personal leap.

Those experiences provide an important backdrop to “Loser”, particularly because its message of perseverance comes from someone who has experienced the uncertainty that accompanies chasing a dream. The track therefore feels less like a conventional statement about overcoming adversity and more like an acknowledgement of the difficult stages that can exist between having a goal and eventually seeing it become reality.

The addictive alternative pop track carries a nostalgic energy, taking the themes and sentimentality of 2000s rock and reimagining them through a chilled pop style, while Andie Case’s powerful vocals echo some of the biggest pop stars of the era as she delivers plenty of grit and heartfelt emotion. Passionate from start to finish, “Loser” is an instantly memorable track that could easily become a fan favourite.

Alongside the single, Andie Case has also released a visualiser directed by Micala Austin, which sees her performing directly to the camera from the back of her car, tying into the lyrics about sleeping in her car. Intercut throughout the visualiser are scenes of Case driving the car and others set in a multi-storey car park, where she simply chills out and lets her down-to-earth personality shine through, making it easy for viewers to feel connected to her.

Andie Case has since built a substantial independent following around her music, with more than 1.4 million YouTube subscribers and over 300 million video views. Her career has also included winning the $1 million grand prize in Usher’s Megastar competition, receiving MTV’s Cover of the Year award, reaching the iTunes Top 100 and performing internationally across Europe and Asia. Not to mention the fact that in 2015, she managed to chart on the Official UK Singles Chart, peaking at Number 24 with her single release “Want to Want Me/I Want You to Want Me Mashup”.

This rising singer-songwriter has spent much of her career building an audience through her powerful interpretations of other artists’ songs, but “Show Me Yours, I’ll Show You Mine” marks an opportunity to put her own voice and experiences front and centre. With her original material taking the lead, the EP offers a closer look at the person behind the performer as she explores the highs, lows, and personal experiences that have shaped her both as an artist and as an individual.

“Loser” builds on the foundation established by “Better Days”, giving listeners another glimpse into the emotional world of the upcoming release. Across the two singles so far, Andie Case is beginning to establish a project that is less concerned with presenting an idealised version of life and more interested in the experiences that shape people along the way.

The title of “Loser” may initially sound self-deprecating, but the track ultimately carries a much more empowering perspective. For Andie Case, moments of failure and self-doubt do not necessarily signal the end of the journey; they can simply represent another stage in discovering who you are and where you want to go next.

With “Loser” now available to download and stream alongside “Better Days”, attention turns towards the full “Show Me Yours, I’ll Show You Mine” EP, which is scheduled for release in September. If the first two singles are any indication, Andie Case is preparing to introduce listeners to a considerably more intimate side of her artistry while continuing to draw strength from the experiences that have shaped her career.

“Loser”, by Andie Case, is available to download and stream, right now, across all platforms. Don’t forget to look out for her upcoming EP, “Show Me Yours, I’ll Show You Mine”, which is expected to be dropped in September.
