Ready to fully kick-start her solo career, and doing so in a brilliant fashion, Michelle McKenna released her debut single, “Darkest Hour”, last week, in collaboration with Selekio. Previously released in 2019 as her second single under the name Michelle Platnum, she’s now relaunching her solo career by repackaging this awesome track and releasing it as her debut single under her own name, alongside four incredible remixes. We expect this is the start of some flawless new music from this rising singer-songwriter, and it also acts as the follow-up to Selekio’s collaboration with Billy Da Kid and Salena Mastroianni, titled “Hypnotise”.

Written by Eddie Craig (Selekio), Michelle McKenna, and Scott the Pisces, while it has been produced by Eddie Craig, “Darkest Hour” is a high-energy dance track that instantly pulls you in with its infectious beat and euphoric rhythm. Driven by a pulsating rhythm, the track blends progressive energy with sweeping electronic waves, creating an undeniably infectious sound. Michelle McKenna’s powerful vocals soar, infusing the lyrics with raw emotion and ensuring listeners feel every ounce of the love she’s singing about.

Lyrically, the song delves into the need for unwavering support during life’s lowest moments. The beat seamlessly wraps around McKenna’s dynamic voice, amplifying the club-ready vibes that make this track so captivating. The EP features five versions of “Darkest Hour”, including a standout remix from Good Star Vibes favourite, Scott The Pisces. His reimagining spotlights McKenna’s vocals, adding depth and texture to the backing track while introducing a massive, atmospheric drop. Fusing deep house elements with a grungy guitar melody, the remix nods to McKenna’s garage roots, elevating the song to an entirely new level.
This is the start of Michelle McKenna relaunching her solo career and we’re totally here for it! Best known for being in the three-piece band Platnum where they hit the UK Official Singles Chart hard with “What’s It Gonna Be?” in collaboration with H “Two” O, peaking at Number 2, which was later followed up by “Love Shy (Thinking About You)” which charted at Number 12. They went on to become popular amongst the underground club scene, releasing awesome tracks until 2013 when they parted ways. Platnum later reformed as a duo, touring across the UK from 2016 onwards, dropping new music including a collaboration with Sweet Female Attitude.
Now forging her own path as a solo artist, McKenna continues to shine, while Platnum moves forward as a newly-formed duo. Beyond her music, she’s also known for her close friendship with N-Dubz’s Tulisa Contostavlos, having publicly supported her during I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! 2024. She even travelled to Australia to greet Tulisa upon her elimination, showcasing their strong bond which can continually be seen across their social media.
As for Selekio, real name Eddie Craig, he has long been a force in the electronic music scene, having made his mark as one-half of Wideboys, the duo behind the 2001 UK Top 20 hit “Sambuca”. Since signing with Spinnin’ Records / Source in 2018, he has carved out his own space, earning support from industry heavyweights like Martin Garrix, Afrojack, and Sam Feldt, with airplay on BBC Radio 1, Capital, and Kiss FM. Known for his dynamic production style, Selekio has collaborated with Charlie Hedges and more recently linked up with Mila Falls, kicking off 2025 with fresh studio projects and a remix for DJ EZ’s label, NuVolve.
“Darkest Hour”, by Michelle McKenna and Selekio, is available as a remix EP to download and stream, right now, across all platforms, via Rhythm Empire Productions. On the first few days of release, the EP managed to work its way up to Number 2 on the UK iTunes Dance Albums Chart, showing the momentum that both these incredible artists are able to generate. We can’t wait to see what they release next.
