Written by Farhan Tanvir (TNVR) and Minha Kim, “care” was produced by TNVR, who also handled recording, mixing, programming, and mastering. Additional instrumentation comes from Dave Cohen, who recorded the keyboard and synthesiser parts that help shape the track’s atmospheric soundscape. The result is a striking alt-pop offering that draws listeners in from the very first moments.

Keyboards immediately set the tone before Crying City’s crisp, emotionally charged vocals enter, delivering a performance that carries a strong sense of vulnerability. As the chorus arrives, layered drum synths introduce a more upbeat pulse while Crying City’s voice rises with greater intensity, reaching falsetto moments that heighten the emotional weight of the song. Toward the closing section, the track shifts slightly into an alt-rock-leaning sound, with fuller drums and guitar chords joining the keys to deepen the darker mood. Lyrically, “care” explores the frustration of a one-sided relationship, as the narrator reflects on broken promises and longs for a partner who is willing to show the same level of care in return.

The new track follows Crying City’s previously released single “VOTED OUT”, and together the songs underline the evolving direction of her sound. Known for pairing intimate lyricism with expansive shoegaze-inspired elements, this rising alt-pop singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer has increasingly developed a musical style that balances vulnerability with cinematic production.

Momentum has been building quickly for the artist in recent months. Her earlier track “unlearning you” proved to be one of her fastest-rising releases to date, gaining significant traction across streaming platforms and social media. Within weeks of its release, the song had already gathered millions of streams on Spotify, while the accompanying visualizer also attracted substantial viewership on YouTube. Even before the official release, the track had sparked widespread engagement online, with listeners creating their own content inspired by the song.

Crying City has also continued to build on the attention generated by her 2024 EP “You’re Still The Luckiest Thing To Happen To Me…”. Several songs from the project resonated strongly with audiences, including “Urn”, which has accumulated 16 million Spotify streams, and “Lucky”, another standout track, which currently sits at 13 million Spotify streams, that further expanded her reach across digital platforms. Alongside releasing music, Crying City has also taken her songs to live audiences, previously performing alongside acts such as Fiji Blue while continuing to write and record new material.

Fans currently have the opportunity to catch Crying City on the road as she joins Bryant Barnes on his SOLACE tour for a few nights. The run of shows began in San Diego, California on February 3, 2026, and will travel through a number of major cities across the United States, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago, before concluding in Detroit, Michigan, on March 19. Bryant Barnes’ tour will continue beyond these dates, ultimately wrapping in Houston, Texas, on April 4. Tickets can be purchased from a variety of ticket-selling sites, including AXS, Vividseats, and TicketNetwork.

Behind the music is a creative background that reflects a blend of cultures and influences. Born in South Korea, Crying City—real name Minha Kim—moved to the United States at a young age and spent much of her upbringing in Phoenix, Arizona, while regularly returning to Korea to visit family. Her musical journey began early, learning piano as a child before later taking up violin during her teenage years.

Although she initially pursued an academic path in neurobiology at the University of California, Berkeley, music soon became an increasingly important creative outlet. During her first year at university, she began sharing original song snippets online, which quickly attracted attention across social media platforms. Inspired by artists including Mitski, Beabadoobee, Radiohead, Billie Eilish, and Chase Atlantic, Crying City developed a sound that merges lo-fi production, alternative influences, and deeply personal storytelling.

With millions of streams already behind her and new material continuing to emerge, the release of “care” signals that Crying City’s momentum shows little sign of slowing down. As her audience continues to grow, the artist appears poised to further expand the atmospheric and emotionally driven musical world she has begun to build.

“care”, by Crying City, is available to download and stream, right now, across all platforms, via SOKA Recordings and Mercury Records, a division of UMG Recordings. Don’t forget to catch Crying City at a handful of shows on Bryant Barnes SOLACE Tour.
