In the realm of music, there are artists who merely perform, and then there are those who craft intricate narratives through their songs, inviting listeners into a world of emotions and experiences. Alaina Pamela, a rising singer and producer, firmly belongs to the latter category, as evidenced by her debut EP, “Depth of My Heart”. The release of this EP acts as the follow-up to her fourth single release, titled “Feel You Here”.

The journey begins with a bilingual vigour track, titled “I Sleep”, where French and English intertwine to set the stage for what lies ahead. Alaina Pamela’s Quebecois roots come to the forefront as she skillfully weaves these linguistic elements into her storytelling. The EP’s opening lines, “This is a story about a girl in love with love,” offer a tantalising glimpse into the emotional rollercoaster that awaits. It’s a nod to her heritage and a promise of the French musical nuances that will grace the album’s finale.
The track’s spoken-word lyrics are set to dive deep into the listener’s hearts with relatable lines in both languages. The one-minute track does more than just introduce the EP, it resonates with listeners through a variety of different lines speaking to different people – we felt it when we heard, “Tomorrow will be better”, something we can all attest to. This leads to the title track, which is a sonically-inducing light indie-pop song that has an addictive beat and a soft dreamy vibe as Alaina Pamela explores her emotions of love for the one she’s fallen for.
It’s clear this second track is a love song with inspiration coming from both Alaina Pamela and Michael Kim-Sheng as they are husband and wife. They collaborated together on this EP with Michael bringing his classical composition background to the table – which explains the stunning backing track that compliments Alaina’s beautiful vocals. This runs into track three, titled “Give Into Me”, which is an easy-listening, introspective ballad, that slows everything down and allows Alaina Pamela to narrate how someone she’s falling for makes her feel.
“Chance” is the fourth track on the EP, which lifts the beat up slightly whilst keeping the dream-like vibe, giving us more of a tapestry of sound and rhythm as she showcases her soulful voice. Lyrically, the song delves into thoughts that drift around one’s head during late nights and how love is a risk but also a chance to find something magical, and she’s prepared to take that chance.
The next track is the interlude titled “I Wake”, which is a musical box instrumental mixed with bird tweeting noises, creating a calming and soothing element to this EP, preparing the listener for the darker turn of events. “Can’t Be Your Friend” starts off with a hypnotising haunting energy that lifts into a full brassy number during the chorus bringing in darker elements while Alaina Pamela impresses with her gorgeous vocals as her lyrics conceptualise how secrets and lies can destroy a friendship. There’s also an awesome electric guitar solo on this track.
Track number seven is “Feel You Here”, which delves into the lingering effects of when someone walks out and leaves you for good. That notion is played out amongst the backing track, with Michael Kim-Sheng completely impressing with his ability to transform the lyrics into a orchestral deep house-pop vibe that sonically moves the listeners and only helps to deliver the message of the song even more so. This is definitely a stand-out track on the EP and one we will so be listening to again and again.
The final track on the EP is “All In My Head”, which ends it all on a very soulful ballad with gorgeous vocalise coming from Alaina Pamela that matches the haunting melodies coming from the backing track. Pair that with her superb vocals and lyrics which dive into dark thoughts of loneliness that won’t let her sleep. The track builds and builds, creating a soul-stirring emotive finality that leaves an indelible mark on every listener, feeling the light-to-dark voyage that Alaina Pamela and Michael Kim-Sheng have taken us on.
The artwork accompanying the EP is equally evocative. On the front cover, Alaina stands before a blazing fire, symbolising the intensity and passion that fuels the heart. On the back, she gazes upon the serene expanse of the ocean, evoking a sense of longing and introspection. These visuals provide a window into the profound themes that permeate “Depth of My Heart”.
Notably, four of the songs on “Depth of My Heart” had already been pre-released earlier in the year, amassing over 200,000 streams on Spotify with “All In My Head” being Alaina Pamela’s most popular song on the streaming platform and holding the streaming weight, with a total of over 162,000 streams.
