Written by members Taylor Edwards, Jillian Steele, and Rachel Wiggins alongside GRAMMY-winning producer Jordan Reynolds and songwriter Ines Dunn, “1+1” reflects on the painful realisation that love doesn’t always add up the way it should. What begins as a passionate connection quickly spirals into something messy and unbalanced, leaving behind the kind of heartbreak that lingers.

“We wrote this song about a relationship that just doesn’t add up—a love that could’ve been simple and easy, but instead it’s messy and complicated,” says Just Jayne. “He falls short, leaves you feeling small—and in the end, there’s nothing you can do to save it.” It’s in the chorus where the weight of the song hits hardest, reflecting the bittersweet realisation that not every relationship adds up the way it should.
Reynolds’ production wraps the trio’s stunning vocal blend in gentle instrumentation, with pedal steel and banjo touches adding to the bittersweet mood. The result is a song that feels both tender and powerful, carrying shades of regret, sorrow, and eventual acceptance. Paired with their soft yet striking vocals and undeniably tight harmonies, “1+1” becomes a track that’s impossible to forget after just one listen. Relatable and heartfelt, it’s the kind of song that leaves an impression on everyone who hears it.
“1+1” follows the release of their August single “Breathe”, which earned a spot on Holler’s Best New Country Songs playlist, and continues their run of fan-favourite releases like “The Way We Were”, “All Backroads”, “New Boots”, and their debut track “This Morning”. That debut drew particular attention for its clever twist—a female response to Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night”—and quickly set Just Jayne apart as a trio with something new to say in country music.
The group have also been carving out a strong presence on the live circuit. Over the past year, they’ve supported Maddie & Tae on their Love & Light Tour and shared the stage with Billy Currington and Tyler Hubbard during the summer. Their live shows have already developed a reputation for bringing fans together in sing-alongs, highlighting the natural chemistry between the three singer-songwriters.
Formed in 2023 after meeting as songwriting majors at Belmont University, Taylor Edwards, Jillian Steele, and Rachel Wiggins quickly discovered their shared passion for storytelling and vocal harmony. Before even releasing their first single, the trio had already built a strong following on TikTok and caught the attention of country stars like Kelsea Ballerini and Bailey Zimmerman.
With “1+1,” Just Jayne continue to showcase exactly why they’re considered one of the most exciting new acts on the country-pop scene—uniting sharp songwriting, emotional honesty, and harmonies that echo with a timeless quality.
“1+1”, by Just Jayne, is available to download and stream, right now, across all platforms, via UMG Recordings and The Core Records.
