The story behind “Everything” began in Nashville, when Annabel Dwyer and Briggs McElwee joined forces with Ben Chapman and Meg McRee for a songwriting session. What emerged from that room was not quite what the writers initially expected, with the conversation around Tobacco Road’s own experiences helping to shape the direction of the track.
McRee began humming along to the central melody as the group explored ideas together, gradually giving the song a foundation that could carry a much more personal story. Instead of keeping the focus on romantic love, the writers found themselves drawing from the realities of being part of a band and everything that comes with committing to that life.
That personal perspective gives “Everything” much of its character.
