In a dramatic turn of events, Alexis Saint-Pete became the first queen to be eliminated from RuPaul’s Drag Race UK series 5 in the second episode, which aired last night. This follows a surprising twist in the previous week when RuPaul announced that none of the queens would be leaving the competition.
However, the queens’ luck ran out in week two, as RuPaul made it clear that someone would have to sashay away by the end of the episode. The challenge this week was a design challenge with a pet shop couture twist, where the 10 queens embraced their inner animals on the runway.
The judging panel for this episode included RuPaul, Michelle Visage, and Graham Norton, along with two special guests—British Vogue editor Edward Enninful, who offered fashion advice in the Werk Room, and Heartstopper star Yasmin Finney.
The coveted RuPeter Badge for the week went to Banksie, who impressed the judges with their monochrome hankie garment. Alexis Saint-Pete and Miss Naomi Carter were the queens who found themselves in the Bottom Two, lip-syncing to “Hot In It” by Tiësto and Charli XCX.
In a high-energy lip sync performance, Alexis faced a momentary struggle when her heel got caught up in her outfit but bounced back with an impressive death drop. Despite her stunning efforts, she was ultimately told to sashay away from the competition.
Reflecting on her elimination, the Polish-British queen expressed, “I wanted to show so much more, but I’m walking away a winner already in my heart. I’m so glad to be here in my new homeland, and I hope to come back better than ever.”
Looking ahead, the queens will face a new challenge in the next episode as they are tasked with writing and performing a ’90s-themed girl group track, with pop sensation Sophie Ellis-Bextor joining the panel as a guest judge.
As fans eagerly await the next episode, they can dive deeper into RuPaul’s Drag Race UK series 5 by tuning into the companion Drag Race after-show, “The After Shave”, with Danny Beard, available on BBC Three and the iPlayer now.
