Produced by Porches, Nightfeelings, and Eric Cross—with additional production from Margo XS—“Jeep” sees Kim Petras lean into a more introspective and emotionally layered sound. Written by Petras alongside Nick Weiss, Aaron Maine, and Eric Cross, the song explores the complexities of connection, centring on the experience of feeling misunderstood within a relationship. Balancing subtle humour with deeper reflection, Petras frames the track around the recurring cycle of loving someone who struggles to truly see or understand her.

The laid-back, guitar-led pop ballad is something audiences don’t typically associate with Kim Petras, offering a more intimate and emotionally driven side to her artistry. It invites listeners in, shaping what feels like a deeply personal chapter while further highlighting her versatility. A defining moment within this era, “Jeep” allows Petras’ voice to take centre stage, reinforcing her ability to leave a distinct pop imprint on any sound she explores. There’s a rawness to her vocal delivery—polished yet intentionally unrefined—that strengthens the connection between the lyrics, the listener, and the track’s steady rhythm. Blending her hyperpop roots with a more stripped-back, country-leaning pop style, the song lingers long after it ends.

Visually, the music video expands on these lyrical themes through a stripped-back, almost cinematic lens. Directed by Leonie Miller-Aichholz, and shot in and around rural areas near Paris, France, in addition to Fourchainville, the video follows Kim Petras as she journeys through the countryside in a worn-down Jeep with her partner, portrayed by Aaron Maine of Porches. Captured through the lens of director of photography (DOP) Joel Hordegard, the visual leans into natural light and open landscapes, creating a reflective, almost dreamlike quality. The narrative captures fleeting, intimate moments—fuel stops, long drives, and quiet exchanges—while subtly reinforcing the emotional distance between the pair, allowing the storytelling to unfold in a restrained yet impactful way.

Styled by Linda Engelhardt, Kim Petras’ wardrobe plays a key role in shaping the video’s aesthetic. Moving between understated, everyday looks and more elevated fashion moments, she presents a deliberately unfiltered version of herself that mirrors the track’s vulnerability. Among the standout pieces is a sought-after design by August Barron, which adds a refined contrast to the otherwise casual styling. This blend of simplicity and statement dressing not only enhances the visual storytelling but also reinforces the themes of identity, self-expression, and emotional openness that sit at the heart of “Jeep”.

The release of “Jeep” also coincided with a televised performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where Kim Petras brought the track to a wider audience, further amplifying excitement around “Detour”. Although an official release date for the album has yet to be confirmed, speculation continues to grow that it may arrive imminently.

This latest single follows a period of prolific creativity for Kim Petras, who has been experimenting with new collaborators and sonic directions. Earlier in the year, she independently shared a four-track project titled “Pretour” exclusively via platforms such as YouTube and SoundCloud, offering fans an early glimpse into the evolving soundscape of “Detour”. The project was met with strong support from her fanbase, reinforcing her ability to connect directly with listeners outside of traditional release strategies.

Beyond her music, Kim Petras has maintained a strong presence across fashion and live events, appearing at major shows in Milan and Paris, as well as delivering DJ sets at renowned venues such as Berghain. She also reunited with Sam Smith during a surprise appearance in San Francisco earlier this year, revisiting their chart-topping collaboration “Unholy” before going on to headline a special show at the famed Castro Theatre on March 15, 2026.

With “Jeep”, Kim Petras continues to evolve her club-rooted sound, pairing it with candid, emotionally driven storytelling that feels both intimate and self-assured. The track not only highlights her willingness to step outside of her hyperpop comfort zone, but also reinforces her ability to adapt her signature style across more stripped-back, genre-blending production. As momentum builds around “Detour”, “Jeep” offers a clearer insight into the album’s direction—one that leans into vulnerability, creative freedom, and a more refined artistic identity—ultimately shaping what could become her most personal and fully realised project to date.

“Jeep”,, by Kim Petras, is available to download and stream, right now, across all platforms, via BunHead Records and Amigo Records. Look out for her forthcoming album, titled “Detour”, expected to be dropped soon.
