In this interview, ZHANNET speaks candidly about her earliest stage experiences, the obstacles she’s had to overcome, and the deep emotional purpose that fuels her creativity today. She opens up about self-belief, the power of music in difficult times, and the goals she’s set as she continues to build her career with intention and authenticity.
When did music become more than just a hobby for you?
I realized I wanted to do music and sing from a very young age. I sang everything I saw, everywhere I went—humming, drumming, pretending to play piano. I remember going to my grandmother’s and always making up songs on the spot. My parents enrolled me in music school right away—I’m very grateful for that. Honestly, I don’t know what I would’ve done if not for music.
What was your first experience performing on stage?
My first performance was on a small village stage—during holidays like Ivan Kupala or Independence Day. I loved singing so much that I once approached the local club director, and from then on, I performed at every event. I especially looked forward to summer—with so many celebrations, the stage was always calling me.
Those first performances were nerve-wracking. I was scared I’d forget the lyrics, didn’t know how to move, and just stood there like a “little statue”. Some even told me, “You’ll never become a singer”. But I kept working on myself, and it paid off. Over time, fear turned into confidence and love for the stage.
How would you describe your artistic journey, and what do you think sets you apart from other artists?
My creative journey hasn’t been easy. First of all, I’ve studied a lot and devoted a huge part of my life to music—from music school, to music college, to university. I’m currently studying for my master’s in music.
Nothing came easily at first—I was stiff and afraid to move. I often heard that I’d never make it as a singer. But I worked hard, overcame my fears—and eventually succeeded.
There are still many challenges today—it often feels like all the doors are closed. But I’ve learned that to open them, you have to knock.
So I continue moving forward with confidence. Even when I feel like giving up, I keep going. Because I know: those who don’t quit—reach their goals. And eventually, stand on top of their own mountain.
What sets me apart? First and foremost—my vocal tone. It’s unique and hard to mistake for anyone else. I also believe my songs carry a special kind of energy.

Do you only perform your own songs, or do you also work with other songwriters?
I don’t write my own songs yet, though I’m starting to try. I’m still not fully confident in my lyrics, so for now, I buy songs from different authors—like Bazhana or Kvіtka Haievska. I also connect and collaborate with many writers and composers.
What kind of image would you like to create in the minds of your listeners?
I’d like to be associated with a young, beautiful, striking, intelligent, sexy, long-legged woman with a stunning voice—someone who draws people in with her energy.
I hope that’s already how people see me, and that more and more will recognize me for these qualities in the future.
Which genres do you feel most comfortable in?
I don’t rap or sing rock—yet. But who knows, anything’s possible.
For now, I prefer pop music. I usually listen to the kind of music I enjoy performing—and that’s pop. I think it’s the most relevant genre today.
How has the war affected you personally and creatively?
When the war began, I hadn’t started my solo career yet—I was still studying.
Of course, the war had a negative impact on everyone. It’s a huge stress.
At first, I barely sang at all—it just didn’t feel right. And if I did sing, it was only sad songs about war, pain, and loss.
It felt inappropriate to post anything—I thought, “What music, when there’s a war in the country?”
But over time, I realized that even my songs could support people emotionally—especially soldiers. And now I believe singing is incredibly important.

What helps you keep going, even in the hardest moments?
Sometimes it’s really tough—air raids, heartbreaking news, pain all around. In such moments, it feels like singing makes no sense at all.
But I always remind myself why I do it. I know my songs can help someone.
One soldier often writes to me—he says he listens to my songs while on night duty, and they warm his soul. That moves me deeply.
When I see that I’ve helped even one person, it gives me strength. I remember my goal—and keep going.
What are your creative goals in the near future?
The plans are big. I already have many songs I’m working on—recording, mixing, shooting music videos, and promoting them. My team and I have a major goal—and we’re moving toward it with confidence.
ZHANNET’s story is a powerful reminder of how resilience, passion, and a strong sense of purpose can shape an artist’s path—even in the face of overwhelming adversity. With her talent, drive, and distinctive energy, she’s someone we’ll be keeping a close eye on as her journey unfolds.
