Calum Scott has unveiled a fresh take on his single “Unsteady”, recruiting fellow British artist Aitch for a newly reworked version accompanied by a love-filled official music video. The updated release revisits one of the standout tracks from Calum Scott’s third studio album “Avenoir”, bringing a new perspective to its message of vulnerability, emotional honesty, and embracing imperfection. This acts as the follow-up to Calum Scott’s “Avenoir” album release from October and Aitch’s collaboration with Juh-Dee, young mesh, and Jazeek on the single “BÆD”.

The collaboration enhances the song’s intimate atmosphere, blending Calum Scott’s heartfelt vocal delivery with Aitch’s reflective and melodic rap contribution. Written by Calum Scott, Charlie Martin, Joe Housley, Jon Maguire, and Harrison Armstrong (Aitch), and produced by The Nocturns, Jon Maguire, and Callum James, the track is further elevated by Alex Ghenea’s polished mix and Simon Francis’ precise mastering. Together, they explore the idea of finding comfort in someone who shares your flaws, reinforcing the theme that imperfection can strengthen emotional connections rather than weaken them.

Together, Calum Scott and Aitch deliver a compelling vocal contrast that strengthens the emotional core of the track. Calum Scott impresses with his signature control, effortlessly reaching falsetto moments that heighten the song’s vulnerability, while Aitch steps into the spotlight with a measured, melodic rap that adds depth and sincerity. The collaboration highlights how two artists from different musical spaces can meet in the middle, resulting in a cohesive and emotionally resonant release that feels both authentic and impactful.

Directed by Ben Morgan, the music video takes a minimalist yet emotionally resonant approach. It places both artists within a stripped-back studio environment, intentionally revealing the mechanics behind the production process. These scenes are interwoven with tender moments between couples, reinforcing the song’s focus on genuine relationships and emotional honesty. The visual complements the track’s message, emphasising that love often exists alongside uncertainty and vulnerability.

The collaboration came together through an unexpectedly personal connection. “Our collaboration came about so organically,” Calum Scott explained. “I saw a post of Aitch’s sister, Gracie, singing ‘You Are the Reason’ and sent a thank you video to Aitch to pass on, and she was buzzing with it.”

That initial exchange soon opened the door to a studio session, with Calum Scott recalling how he shared the track before its release. “I showed him ‘Unsteady’ before it was released and he was like ‘give me an hour’,” he said, praising Aitch as “a great guy with an amazing talent who has brought a completely new dynamic to the song whilst keeping the message sincere.” Aitch echoed the sentiment, adding, “Loved working with Calum, he’s a top guy.”

The release arrives during a busy period for Calum Scott, who is continuing to support “Avenoir”, an album that reflects his artistic and emotional growth. Inspired in part by John Koenig’s book “The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows”, the album’s title refers to the concept of moving forward through life while reflecting on the past. This theme resonates throughout the record, which balances deeply personal ballads with more rhythm-driven tracks. The project was developed alongside longtime collaborator Jon “MAGS” Maguire and London-based production duo The Nocturns.

As Calum previously explained, “‘Avenoir’ refers to how we move through life like a rower moves: always moving forward but facing backward, seeing where we’ve been but not where we’re going. The songs on this album speak to both regret and sorrow, and to undying love—a plea to live life to its fullest.”

Among the album’s notable moments is a special duet version of “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)” featuring the late Whitney Houston. Created with the approval of The Estate of Whitney E. Houston, the reimagined version reshapes the dance-pop classic into a sweeping symphonic duet, deepening its emotional weight and amplifying its sense of longing. The release blends Calum Scott’s vocals with Whitney Houston’s original recordings, offering a new interpretation of the iconic song while honouring her legacy.

Meanwhile, Aitch has carved out his own formidable presence in the UK music scene, rising from Manchester breakout star to chart-topping mainstay. Known for his quick-witted lyricism and confident delivery, he has secured multiple UK Top 10 hits, including the Number 2 singles “Taste (Make It Shake)” and “Baby”, the latter with Ashanti, as well as the Number 3 hit “Rain” alongside AJ Tracey featuring Tay Keith. He also reached Number 5 with “Psycho”, his collaboration with Anne-Marie, and Number 6 with “My G” with Ed Sheeran and “War” with ArrDee.

His debut album, “Close to Home”, further showcased his versatility, balancing sharp rap flows with more reflective moments. Beyond music, Aitch broadened his public profile with an appearance on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, last year, where he came fourth, introducing him to an even wider audience while reinforcing his status as one of the UK’s most recognisable contemporary rap voices.
