Serving as the second track to be unveiled from the upcoming project, “Too Far” marks a pivotal step in the band’s current creative direction. Written and produced by Alex Cherney, the track features mixing from Ben Etter, with Cherney on vocals and The Brothers Nylon members, twin brothers Nick Rufolo and Mike Rufolo, contributing bass and drums, respectively. Rooted in a ’90s alternative rock influence, the track highlights a more focused and cohesive sonic identity. Lyrically, it explores themes of introspection and personal reckoning, centring on the experience of recognising when you’ve lost your way and the need to reassess your path forward.

With a steady indie-rock groove and Alex Cherney’s distinctly ’90s-inspired vocal tone, “Too Far” taps into a strong sense of nostalgia while maintaining a contemporary edge. The track builds a natural connection with the listener, driven not only by its introspective lyricism but also by a rhythmic foundation that lingers long after the first listen. As the narrative leans into themes of feeling lost or straying from one’s path, the familiar soundscape offers a sense of comfort, balancing uncertainty with warmth and cohesion to create a rich alternative indie-rock experience.

Speaking about the track, the band shared in a press release, “’Too Far’ was the first song where the ’90s alternative sound really clicked for us. The main riff had been sitting with me for years without a home, and once we started leaning into that era sonically, the song finally made sense. It’s about that moment of clarity when you realize you’ve drifted too far from your center and have to confront who you’re trying to be.”

Over the years, Alex Cherney & The Brothers Nylon have built a reputation for their genre-fluid approach, experimenting with reggae, retro soul, and disco influences while maintaining a consistent vintage-inspired production style. This willingness to explore different sounds has resonated with listeners, contributing to millions of streams across platforms and helping the band secure placements on notable editorial playlists.

With “Magnetized”, however, the band appear to be honing in on a more cohesive musical identity. Drawing inspiration from iconic acts such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sublime, and Blind Melon, the album is rooted in a nostalgic alternative-rock sound while still weaving in elements of reggae and singer-songwriter storytelling.

The recording process further reinforces this aesthetic, with much of the album tracked using analogue equipment and recorded to tape on a Tascam 388, giving the project a warm, textured feel that echoes the era it draws from while still sounding fresh. This approach complements the album’s thematic direction, which explores introspective topics including personal growth, life transitions, and finding meaning in everyday experiences.

Adding another layer of depth to the project, “Magnetized” has been mixed by Ben Etter, whose previous work spans a range of acclaimed artists, helping to shape the album into a cohesive and emotionally resonant body of work. Known for his collaborations with acts such as Deerhunter, Washed Out, and Cate Le Bon, Etter brings a refined yet atmospheric touch that complements the band’s analogue-driven sound.

As anticipation builds ahead of the album’s release, the band are set to roll out a series of additional singles, alongside music videos and live studio performances, giving fans further insight into what is shaping up to be one of their most personal and sonically focused projects to date.

“Too Far”, by Alex Cherney & The Brothers Nylon, is available to download and stream, right now, across all platforms, via Trialtone Laquer. Look out for their forthcoming album “Magnetized” which is set to be released on July 10.
