Composer and songwriter Peter Melnick has introduced a new creative direction with the release of his debut single “Bring Them Home” featuring Michael HarPaz, now available on all major streaming and downloading platforms alongside a newly released music video. The track also signals the beginning of a more personal phase in his artistic journey. This acts as Melnick’s debut single, although it technically follows the 2008 soundtrack album “Adrift in Macao” for the off-Broadway Christopher Durang musical of the same name, which he co-produced alongside Joel Moss; whilst it acts as the follow-up to Michael HarPaz’s feature on Soul’s 2024 single, titled “Forever In Our Hearts”.

The track marks a shift for Melnick, who has spent much of his career working behind the scenes in film, television, and musical theatre. With this release, he moves into a more personal space as a recording artist, placing his own songwriting and artistic perspective at the forefront.

“Bring Them Home” was written and composed by Melnick and produced by Joseph E-Shine (also known as Yossi Mizrahi), with vocals provided by Michael HarPaz. The song is the first glimpse into an upcoming project that is expected to explore deeply personal themes through music.

According to details surrounding its creation, the single emerged in direct response to the aftermath of the events of October 7, 2023, and the ongoing hostage crisis in Israel. Rather than positioning itself as a political statement, the song is framed as a personal emotional response, reflecting grief, empathy, and a sense of human urgency. It was reportedly written on the morning of a vigil in Santa Barbara and first performed that same evening, publicly, underscoring its immediate and spontaneous emotional origins. At its core, the track is anchored by a simple refrain calling for people to be returned home safely.

Powerful and emotionally charged, the collaboration between Peter Melnick and Michael HarPaz creates a striking balance between composition and vocal delivery. The instrumentation builds a strong emotional foundation beneath Harpaz’s expressive performance, allowing the vocal to sit at the centre of the track’s impact. Each lyric is delivered with clear intent, shaping the narrative at the heart of the song.

Melnick’s piano work is a defining feature throughout, understated yet deeply expressive, reflecting the experience he has built over decades in the music industry while ensuring every note contributes to the track’s emotional weight. Layered violin strings add further depth, guiding the listener through the arrangement and lifting the song into a more cinematic space.

Accompanying the single is a music video directed by Joseph Mizrachi, which opens in a dimly lit room featuring a film projector and a harp. Shortly into the visual, harpist Adya Godlovski appears, performing as the instrument becomes part of the unfolding scene. The projector plays a black-and-white film reel that alternates between selected lyrics appearing in cursive text and imagery tied to key moments in the narrative. This interplay between imagery and music helps reinforce the emotional message at the core of the track.

Melnick’s background in screen and stage composition spans more than three decades, with credits across both film and television. His work includes projects such as L.A. Story, The Only Thrill, Convicts, and Farce of the Penguins, along with documentary and television scores including Cinema’s Exiles: From Hitler to Hollywood and Indictment: The McMartin Trial.

He is also active in musical theatre and is currently developing a Broadway adaptation of Snow in August, working alongside lyricist Mindi Dickstein and librettist Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The project further highlights his continued presence within the theatre world.

His artistic lineage is also notable. His father, producer Daniel Melnick, was involved in a number of influential film and television projects including Straw Dogs, All That Jazz, Altered States, Footloose, and Get Smart. His grandfather was the celebrated composer Richard Rodgers, whose work helped shape the American songbook through iconic musicals such as The Sound of Music, Oklahoma! and Carousel.

As for Michael HarPaz, he was born in Detroit and later relocated to Israel in the mid-1990s, arriving with little more than ambition and a guitar. Within a short space of time, he rose to prominence as a founding member and lead vocalist of the pop group HiFive, which became one of the most successful acts in the country. During his time with the group, he performed to large-scale audiences and played a key role in shaping the sound and image of Israeli pop music during that era

Following that early success, HarPaz continued to build a career defined by his distinctive vocal style and strong stage presence. He more recently appeared on the twelfth season of HaKokhav HaBa L’Eurovizion (The Next Star for Eurovision), Israel’s national selection show for the Eurovision Song Contest. The format is part of the international Rising Star franchise, which has also been adapted in other countries, including the United States. During his run on the show, he progressed to the Quarterfinal stage.

The single also highlights a wider collaborative network, with producer Joseph E-Shine — known for his work with artists including Barns Courtney, Ninet Tayeb, Steven Wilson, and Infected Mushroom — playing a key role in its creation. Together, the team combines Melnick’s compositional background with a contemporary production approach, supported by an impressive collective of musicians and vocalists who help bring the project to life.

With “Bring Them Home”, Peter Melnick begins what appears to be a more introspective chapter in his career, setting the tone for a larger body of work centred on emotion, reflection, and human connection.
