Kylie Minogue, the iconic Australian superstar, is once again celebrating a remarkable achievement in her illustrious career. Her latest studio album, “Tension”, has officially claimed the top spot on the Official Albums Chart in the UK, marking her ninth number-one album on the chart.
“Tension” debuted with an impressive 53,000 chart sales in its first week. What’s even more remarkable is that it outsold the combined sales of the rest of the Top 5 albums, solidifying Kylie Minogue’s reign at the summit of the chart.
This latest accomplishment adds to Kylie’s extensive list of UK chart-toppers, which includes her 1988 debut album “Kylie”, 1989’s “Enjoy Yourself”, 1992’s “Greatest Hits”, 2001’s “Fever”, 2010’s “Aphrodite”. 2018’s “Golden”, 2019’s “Step Back in Time: The Definitive Collection”, and 2020’s “DISCO”.
In achieving her ninth number-one album, Kylie Minogue now finds herself in esteemed company, sharing the record with legendary acts Bob Dylan and Coldplay, both of whom also boast nine number-one albums on the Official UK Albums Chart. Among female solo artists, only Taylor Swift and Madonna have surpassed this feat, with 10 and 12 number-one albums, respectively.

Kylie’s “Tension” not only dominated the overall Official Albums Chart but also claimed the top spot on the Official Vinyl Album Chart. Moreover, it secured the Number 1 position on the Official Record Store Chart, signifying it as the most purchased album in the UK’s independent record shops during the week of its release. The album also reached the top spot in her home country, on the other side of the world – Australia – on the ARIA Albums chart.
With “Tension” topping the UK Albums Chart, the singles from the album also soared up on the Official UK Singles Chart, with the title track jumping from number 75 to 47 – not quite launching high enough to beat her highest peak of 19 for this track, which was also the debut chart appearance for this track. “Padam Padam” also jumped up, it went from number 97 to number 72. The album track, “Hold On To Now”, debuted on the UK Singles Chart at number 81 – could this become her third single from this album?
In other chart news, Olivia Rodrigo continued her impressive run, maintaining her position in the Top 5 with her album “GUTS”, which previously topped the charts. The Californian singer-songwriter’s second studio album held steady at Number 2 for a third consecutive week.
Kylie Minogue’s “Tension” has once again highlighted her enduring popularity and her ability to captivate audiences with her music, solidifying her status as a global music icon.
