Little Mix’s iconic track “Secret Love Song” has been given a vibrant new twist with the release of “Secret Love Song Pt III,” an electrifying cover by passionate pop artist Jaime Adrian and Velvet Code. Released today, December 6, this dancefloor-ready anthem reimagines the original’s heartfelt emotion, paying homage to its LGBTQ+ resonance while introducing a fresh, Y2K-inspired energy. This acts as the follow-up to Jaime Adrian’s single with Velvet Code, titled “I’m Never Gonna Dance Again” and Velvet Code’s collaboration with Sam Campbell, titled “Wasting My Time”.

Adrian’s love for “Secret Love Song” began in a deeply personal moment. During an Ariana Grande concert, he witnessed Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall dedicate the song to LGBTQ+ fans, an experience that moved him to tears. “Hearing Jade’s speech brought me to tears. The song hit differently from then on, and whenever I share it with others, it evokes such strong emotions,” Adrian explains. Inspired by its message and impact, he partnered with producer Velvet Code to transform the heartfelt ballad into a vibrant, club-friendly hit.

Originally written by Jez Ashurst, Emma Rohan, and Rachel Furner, with Jason Desrouleaux (Jason Derulo) writing his rap part, Little Mix’s “Secret Love Song” became a huge success going on to become certified double platinum in both the United Kingdom and Australia, where it charted at Number 6 and Number 16, respectively. Jaime Adrian’s version takes the pace up a huge notch, with dance and club beats pulsating throughout thanks to Velvet Code, while the vocals are strong, heartfelt, and touching.

Controversy hit when the original music video for Little Mix and Jason Derulo’s song was dropped as it was supposed to feature three couples—a same-sex, an opposite-sex, and an interracial—but all narrative scenes were cut by the girl group’s record label, Syco, frustrating the band members who envisioned the video as a portrayal of LGBTQ+ struggles. While we didn’t get the music visual we wanted, the community still got behind the track and turned it into the pride anthem it always was meant to be; and Jaime Adrian expands this with his incredible version, making it a must-play in queer venues around the world!

As a longtime fan of Little Mix—a “Mixer” since the group’s The X Factor days—Adrian’s connection to the song runs deep. From attending their concerts worldwide to hosting weekly “Little Mix Mondays” at bars in Chicago, his admiration for the group is unwavering. “Their songs are all bops,” he enthuses, even revealing that he once penned a track about meeting Jade Thirlwall at an afterparty in Manchester.

Adrian’s version of “Secret Love Song” retains the powerful essence of the original but reinvents it with an upbeat, empowering twist. Blending heartfelt lyrics with a pulsating dance rhythm, the track invites listeners to cry, celebrate, and sing along all at once. “Whenever I play it, I want to throw my hands in the air and sing along,” he says. “It’s a song you can cry to but also feel empowered by.” With the release of this version, Adrian is hoping to “make the song a hit for the clubs.”

With “Secret Love Song Pt III,” Jaime Adrian captures the bittersweet reality of concealed love, reflecting the unique challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community. Drawing from personal memories of his own hidden relationships, Adrian channels these emotions into a track designed to connect with anyone who has experienced the pain of love kept in the shadows. “Finding love is already hard, but hiding it makes it even harder,” he reflects.

In a time when LGBTQ+ visibility is more vital than ever, Adrian’s goal with this release is to celebrate queer love and inspire acceptance. “We’ve fought too hard to go back into hiding,” he says, emphasising the importance of creating spaces for love to thrive openly. Despite the weight of reinterpreting a Little Mix classic, Adrian approaches the project with humility and reverence. “I’m not trying to outshine their versions,” he insists. “I just hope people will hear my song, look up Little Mix, and appreciate their artistry as much as I do.”
