GRAMMY-nominated duo Capital Cities are back with a bang. On Friday, they released their brand-new single, “F*k It”, giving fans a first glimpse at what’s to come from their forthcoming album “Making Up The Rules”, which is set to arrive later this year via Lazy Hooks. This acts as the follow-up to their third studio album, titled “A Hurricane of Frowns”, which was released at the start of this year.

Blending their signature synth-driven pop with a bold and unapologetic attitude, “F*k It” explores the emotional weight of modern pressures and the urge to let go. The track taps into feelings of stress, frustration, and exhaustion—themes that will likely resonate with listeners—before pivoting into a liberating moment of acceptance. It’s an anthem for anyone who’s ever felt overwhelmed by the chaos of life and needed a reason to shrug it off and keep going.

Official single cover artwork for "F*k It" by Capital Cities which shows the title in a neon mauve colour with each letter in a different font but all giving an inky look due to the colour. It's on a dark purple back ground and the duo's name is in the right bottom corner in white and small.

Ethereal in nature, “F*k It” delivers a powerful message wrapped in soft, laid-back vocals that create an effortlessly cool atmosphere. Blasé in the best possible way, the duo’s standout moment comes from their striking use of vocalise, a melodic flourish that elevates the track’s tone and reinforces its emotional core. Capital Cities prove, once again, that they know exactly what they’re doing, offering yet another earworm that fans will be humming for days.

This release marks a new chapter for Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian, who first met through a Craigslist ad for jingle writing gigs. Since then, Capital Cities have built a reputation for crafting infectious pop tunes that aren’t afraid to break the rules. Their breakout hit “Safe and Sound” catapulted them onto the global stage, followed by fan favourites like “Kangaroo Court”, as well as unexpected collaborations with André 3000 on “Farrah Fawcett Hair” and Rick Ross on “Girl Friday”.

Their most recent project, “A Hurricane of Frowns”, offered a massive collection of rarities, remixes, live performances, covers, and fresh tracks, showcasing their range and creativity across the years. The duo have just wrapped up a successful string of shows across Latin America, playing to packed crowds in Mexico, Costa Rica, and Peru. Fans can expect more live dates to be announced soon as the duo gear up for the next era in their genre-blending journey.

“F*k It”, by Capital Cities, is available to download and stream, right now, across all platforms, via Lazy Hooks. Expect more new music around the corner as they prepare for the release of their brand new album, “Making Up The Rules”.
