GRAMMY-nominated duo Capital Cities are back with their latest single, “So Be So Mine”, a shimmering synth-pop track that effortlessly combines heartfelt emotion with philosophical reflection. The song marks the third release from their forthcoming album “Making Up The Rules”, which is set to arrive in early 2026 through Lazy Hooks. This acts as the follow-up to their previous single “Late For School“.

Balancing romance and introspection, “So Be So Mine” captures Capital Cities’ signature sound: a radiant blend of layered harmonies, glimmering electronic textures, and playful lyricism that always carries a deeper message. Co-frontman Sebu Simonian describes the track as “about trying to win over an absent lover by naively making the most impossible of promises—peace on Earth.” It’s a poetic take on longing and idealism, wrapped in a groove that’s as dreamy as it is thought-provoking.

With its retro groove and commanding vocals, this brand-new single feels primed to make waves as rhythmic electronica takes centre stage following the close of festival season. True to form, the duo refuse to be boxed in, injecting a bold electronic-rock guitar segment towards the end that catches listeners completely off guard — in the best possible way. The result is a track that pulses with nostalgia and innovation, capturing that distinct Capital Cities magic that continues to evolve.
The single follows their previously released tracks “F*k It”, which we described as “ethereal in nature”, and “Late For School”, which we called “a dream-pop soundscape that blends into subtle hyper-pop surrounded by identifiable indie-rock”. Together, these releases hint at a bold and eclectic direction for “Making Up The Rules”, blending nostalgia-fuelled production with modern pop innovation.
Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian first met through Craigslist, where they began working together as commercial jingle writers, successfully composing music for various advertising campaigns—a humble beginning that eventually led to an international breakthrough. Since their debut, Capital Cities have consistently defied pop conventions, gaining worldwide recognition with hits like “Safe and Sound” and “Kangaroo Court”. Their collaborative spirit has also seen them team up with André 3000 on the experimental “Farrah Fawcett Hair” and Rick Ross on the smooth, funk-driven “Girl Friday”.

Earlier this year, the pair released “A Hurricane of Frowns”, a sprawling anthology project that revisited their catalogue with new material, rare cuts, live recordings, remixes, and covers—further proof of their commitment to reinvention and exploration.
Fans won’t have to wait long to see Capital Cities light up the stage again—the duo will perform this December in Hermosillo, Mexico, before expanding their live schedule with more shows soon to be revealed. It’s the perfect setup for a new chapter as “Making Up The Rules” edges closer to release.
“So Be So Mine”, by Capital Cities, is available to download and stream, right now, across all platforms via Lazy Hooks.
