Paco Rabanne has always stood at the intersection of fashion, innovation, and artistry. Now, the iconic fashion house is reclaiming its musical roots with a bold revival of its lesser-known but culturally rich sonic past. In collaboration with the legendary Miraval Studios, Rabanne is reintroducing a forgotten gem from the 1980s: Judy Carter’s “Listen To The Music”. It is a vibrant Afro-disco track that first graced the world in 1983 under the Paco Rabanne Design label.

More than four decades later, “Listen To The Music” returns, now freshly remastered by Grammy- and Emmy-winning producer Damien Quintard at Miraval Studios in Provence, a location just as storied as the track itself. The result is a dazzling restoration that breathes new energy into a song that once lit up Parisian dancefloors, all while preserving the authenticity and spirit of its original creators.

“What I love is making music. Caribbean music, African music—all kinds of things. A fashion designer should also be a man of the arts, a complete artist.” Monsieur Rabanne (1984)

“Remastering this track means bringing back a raw, joyful, and strikingly modern energy from the Paco Rabanne Design catalog. Judy Carter has that pop elegance and sense of freedom that perfectly matches the sonic identity of Miraval,” Quintard explains. The track is now available to download and stream across platforms, offering new audiences a chance to experience a rich fusion of Latin jazz, funk, and disco from a pioneering era.

Carter herself reflects on the journey that brought her to this moment: “I began my artistic career as a dancer touring Europe, where I met musician Roberto Valencia. Our creative partnership marked the beginning of my transition into music, starting with a studio recording for Guy Cuevas at Paris’ iconic nightclub Le Palace. That experience opened the door to my next major project—recording under the Paco Rabanne music label, which led to the track ‘Listen to the Music’, a vibrant fusion of Latin jazz and funk. I wrote and performed the lyrics, guided by emotion and supported by a brilliant team of musicians, including a standout piano solo by Roberto.

She continued by saying: “Paco Rabanne personally styled me for the cover shoot, an empowering moment that made me feel fully aligned with my creative voice and image. Beyond the studio, I performed as a backing vocalist for Nancy Holloway and Sacha Distel, danced for Dalida, appeared in a Coca-Cola commercial for the 1984 Olympic Games, and worked internationally as a dancer and model in choreographed fashion shows across Europe and the US. A special highlight came in 1987, when I was chosen to appear in Prince’s music video ‘U Got the Look’, filmed at Bercy, Paris—an unforgettable moment in my artistic journey.”

As part of the revival, Rabanne isn’t just looking back, it’s looking ahead. Launching alongside the re-release is the #RabanneRemix challenge, an open invitation for producers, beatmakers, and musicians around the globe to reimagine the track and add their own signature to it. The ultimate prize? A residency at the prestigious Miraval Studios in October 2025, where the winner will co-produce a brand-new track with elite audio engineers—an unprecedented opportunity for emerging talent.

This cultural initiative also highlights a powerful partnership with TuneCore, the platform known for helping independent artists share their work worldwide while retaining full rights to their music. Together, Rabanne and TuneCore aim to amplify new voices, ensuring that this remix challenge doesn’t just celebrate the past—it actively shapes the future.

Vincent Thilloy, President of Rabanne, sees this project as a natural continuation of the house’s avant-garde spirit. “Music has always been at the heart of Rabanne’s DNA,” he explains. “As early as 1966, Monsieur Rabanne was a pioneer in integrating music into his runway shows, creating a unique and avant-garde experience. He later developed a truly holistic approach to the artform, launching his own label and founding dedicated spaces like Centre 57.”

He continues by stating: “Bringing this musical heritage back to life felt not only natural—it felt essential. That’s why we’re especially proud to collaborate with one of the most iconic studios in the industry: Miraval Studios. We’re excited to see how a new generation of artists will take ownership of this track and breathe new life into it.”

Miraval Studios, which reopened in 2022 after being meticulously restored by Brad Pitt and Damien Quintard, has become a creative haven for music legends and new-gen icons alike. With a legacy that includes recordings from Pink Floyd, The Cure, and Sade, the studio is now writing a fresh chapter as a cultural collaborator and sonic storyteller, offering artists the space to create without limits.

The collaboration with Rabanne continues that trajectory, offering not just a remaster but a reawakening of a visionary creative ethos that saw no boundaries between fashion, music, and identity.

“Listen to the Music”, by Judy Carter, is available to download and stream, right now, via Miraval Studios. Aspiring remixers can join the #RabanneRemix challenge via TuneCore for their chance to shape the next sound of Rabanne’s evolving legacy.
