Jeff Cohen has kicked off 2026 with the release of his new single, “Boat On A River”, featuring his musical project, Pancho’s Lament, available now across all major platforms. Marking his first release of the year, the track leans into his singer-songwriter foundations while bringing together a carefully selected group of collaborators who add depth and warmth to the record. This acts as the follow-up to his previous single “Playing G-D”, which also featured Pancho’s Lament.

On the track, Jeff Cohen surrounds his lead vocal with the blended tones of Bethany Joy Lenz—recognised by many for her portrayal of Haley James Scott on One Tree Hill—along with singer-songwriter Toby Lightman and AJ Dean-Revington of UK Americana outfit The Wandering Hearts. Rather than stepping into the foreground, their voices drift in and out of the arrangement, creating a gentle swell of harmony that enhances the song’s reflective atmosphere and gives its quieter moments an added emotional pull.

Produced by Jeff Cohen, “Boat On A River” was engineered by Brad Hill and Fraser Watt, mixed by Buckley Miller, and mastered by Mike Monseur. The finished recording balances polish with intimacy, underscoring Cohen’s strengths as both a songwriter and vocalist. Emotion carries through from the opening lines to the final refrain, with his warm, timeless tone taking centre stage before expanding in the chorus as Bethany Joy Lenz, Toby Lightman, and AJ Dean-Revington join him in layered harmony. Soulful with a classic aesthetic, the song explores feelings of weariness amid life’s constant demands, using the image of a boat drifting along a river as a metaphor for quiet escape and a longing for peace.

Talking about the track, Jeff Cohen said, “‘Boat On A River’ is a very personal song for me. It’s about stepping away from the noise of life for a moment—knowing you’ll return refreshed and ready. It reflects my singer-songwriter roots and the kind of music that first inspired me.” His words underline the song’s reflective core, with its focus on simplicity, space, and understated storytelling.

While many will know Jeff Cohen for writing hits recorded by other artists—including “Postcard From Paris” for The Band Perry, “Holy Water” for Big & Rich, “Crazy For This Girl” for Evan and Jaron, “Giddy On Up” for Laura Bell Bundy, and “A Thousand Hallelujahs” for The Shires—his catalogue stretches far beyond those standout titles. Across pop, country, and Americana, his songwriting has shaped chart successes and fan favourites alike, earning him industry recognition and widespread placements in television and film. With “Boat On A River”, however, the spotlight shifts away from the artists interpreting his words and back onto Jeff Cohen himself, allowing listeners to connect directly with the voice behind so many well-known tracks.

Beyond the studio, Jeff Cohen is also heading to the UK for a series of live performances. The run includes appearances at the renowned C2C Festival in London, as well as dates in York, Saltaire, Holborn, and Basingstoke. The shows will see him sharing stages with artists including Stevie Woodward, Laura Oakes, and Alyssa Bonagura, offering UK audiences the chance to experience his storytelling up close.

With a catalogue that spans more than 25 million album sales worldwide, alongside placements across television, film, and video games, Jeff Cohen’s career has long been defined by both versatility and longevity. Beyond writing and recording, he also plays an active role within the wider music community, serving as a Board Member of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) and the Inspired Nation Foundation, while founding the Gotham Songwriter Festival to champion emerging talent. “Boat On A River” marks another chapter—one that revisits his creative foundations while inviting listeners to pause, reflect, and drift, if only for a few minutes, with the tide.
