LA-based pop sensation, Stewart Taylor, has unveiled the music video for his explosive dance-pop single, “EVEN”, which premiered today on Vevo. While the single first captured fans’ attention in October with its emotional depth and infectious beat, the music video brings a whole new dimension to the story, blending retro gaming aesthetics with futuristic visuals. Directed by longtime collaborator Benjamin Farren, the video is a creative masterpiece that amplifies the song’s themes of love, conflict, and self-empowerment.
Stewart Taylor’s “EVEN” Music Video:
A Relationship Turned Into a Video Game
The “EVEN” music video transforms a tumultuous relationship into a literal video game, with Taylor and his on-screen partner, played by dancer Nick Young, battling through escalating emotional “levels”. Inspired by retro gaming visuals and a jacket he spotted at New York Fashion Week emblazoned with “Game Over”, Taylor conceptualised the video as a metaphor for the emotional rollercoaster of love.
“In real life, we were very much ‘Game Over’ by the time I finished this song,” Taylor shares. “I left that relationship and took back my power, so I won!”
From cinematic fight scenes around a neon Corvette to a golden panther-headed lover representing the unpredictability of his former relationship, the video is as intense and layered as the song itself. “My ex was always ready to pounce about anything and everything,” Taylor reflects. “And turning that story into a video game character was a cathartic moment.”
High-Energy Choreography and Bold Fashion
Taylor’s commitment to the craft shines in the high-energy choreography, courtesy of Julie Vegliante, which pushed him to new heights as a dancer. Styling, handled by Taylor himself alongside German designer Joseph Auren, adds another layer of vibrancy and creativity to the visual. “Styling is very fun for me,” Taylor says. “And I love juggling different aspects of the creative process.”
The retro-futuristic aesthetic blends seamlessly with the song’s European dance-pop sound, a production by Romanian hitmaker MADS. The visual includes female twin DJs as extras, played by RaeCola (Nicole Henderson & Rachel Henderson). Lyrically, “EVEN” explores the emotional toll of a relationship stuck in a cycle of pain and retaliation, advocating for accountability and breaking the cycle rather than seeking revenge.
A New Artistic Era
Although “EVEN” was released back in October, the video cements it as one of his most defining works to date. “In my opinion, ‘EVEN’ is one of my best songs because of how honest it is, and it’s also one of my favorite music videos I’ve ever made,” he says.
This video also serves as a stepping stone to Taylor’s highly anticipated debut album, slated for 2025. With a Tennebreck remix of “EVEN” already primed for club audiences, fans can expect more danceable and emotionally resonant tracks in the coming months.
