Charlie Aky is stepping into the spotlight with the release of his debut EP “No Drama”, a project that captures his growing reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting new singer-songwriters. The release follows the success of his breakout single “What Can I Say”, a track that earned him comparisons to Alex Warren, Shawn Mendes, and Myles Smith while gaining support from a variety of outlets, including Amazing Radio, GlitterBeam, and Music News. This acts as the follow-up to the piano version of the said previous single.

The EP’s title is one that Charlie Aky has carried with him for years, though it takes on a deeper meaning in this context. Frequently using the phrase “no drama” in his daily life to mean “don’t worry about it” or “no problem”, the singer chose it as a contrast to the heavy emotions explored within the songs. “Lots of the songs on here have a very deep meaning and are rooted in relationships and life experiences,” he explained, noting that the title serves as a counterbalance.

For Charlie Aky, the project is about forging a connection with listeners: “With this project, I hope to offer something people can connect with, and maybe even find a bit of comfort in, if they’ve been through similar feelings and experiences.” Across the EP, he blends introspective lyrics with radio-ready melodies, offering tracks that reflect on heartbreak, identity, and the moments that shape us. All four tracks from the EP are piano versions, with the first three tracks having previously been released as singles, while “Kiss Said It All” is brand new.

The EP opens with “What Can I Say”, immediately drawing attention to Charlie Aky’s commanding vocals against a piano-driven backdrop. Stacked harmonies add a choir-like intensity, heightening the rawness of every line, while his vocal runs bring a dramatic edge that grips the listener from start to finish. The chorus cuts through with grit and power, as his voice channels the shock of love vanishing in an instant—a gut-wrenching hit that happens overnight, leaving no time to prepare. It’s a striking opener that dives headfirst into themes of sudden disconnection, heartbreak, and unanswered questions.

Next up is “Better After All”, a subtler track where Charlie Aky leans into soulful emotion. His vocal delivery moves with precision, knowing when to rise in power and when to pull back, mirroring the push and pull of the song’s message. It reflects the inner conflict of believing everything is falling apart, only to later realise it may not be as bad as it first seemed. Lyrically, it captures relationship struggles and the tension between holding on and letting go. Speaking about the track, Aky explained: “It’s a song about feeling like everything is falling apart in the moment but then reflecting on it and realising maybe it’s not as bad as you thought.”

The third track, “No One To Call”, finds Charlie Aky opening in a lower register, pulling back in the verses to let the lyrics take centre stage. When the chorus arrives, he leans into the grit of his voice, adding weight and emotion against a gentle piano backdrop that keeps the focus firmly on his delivery. Blending elements of indie-pop and balladry, the track stands out with its raw intensity, exploring feelings of isolation, lost love, and the struggle to move forward after a relationship that ended too easily.

The final track on the “No Drama” EP, “Kiss Said It All”, is a heartfelt pop ballad that showcases Charlie Aky’s vocal strength alongside expressive piano chords. His powerful voice sends waves of emotion that resonate deeply with listeners, drawing them into the story of the song. Flowing through touching notes in the chorus, he hits a falsetto for a split second, sending chills and underscoring just how personal this track is to him. Lyrically, the song reflects on a passionate encounter and the complex emotions that follow when the line between friendship and romance is crossed, capturing the bittersweet realisation that things can never return to how they were before.

Charlie Aky’s journey to this moment has been unconventional yet inspiring. After taking time away from music, he rediscovered his passion during lockdown, teaching himself guitar and uploading clips of his progress to TikTok. His heartfelt approach struck a chord with viewers, leading to a steadily growing fan base and performances on the streets as a busker. That dedication eventually led to a signing with SEAR Music earlier this year, cementing his shift from emerging online talent to fully-fledged recording artist.

Charlie Aky has taken influence from names like Dermot Kennedy, Ed Sheeran, and Shawn Mendes, but “No Drama” makes it clear he is carving out his own lane. The EP shows his ability to balance raw lyricism with a polished pop sound, marking him as an artist with both authenticity and mainstream potential.

“No Drama”, the debut EP from Charlie Aky, is available to download and stream, right now, across all platforms, via SEAR Music.
