Reflecting on the inspiration behind the track, Hermida explains, “’OPPosites’ was written from the pain and confusion of losing a friend when the same story is seen in completely opposite ways.”

You replay every moment, trying to figure out a way to reconcile, but sometimes you just need to move on without them. I needed a way to process what I was going through, and I just started building this song off that feeling. I must’ve rewrote the chorus five or six times. I wanted to ensure the song wasn’t aggressive or mean; that wasn’t the point of the song. I needed it to feel real without it being an attack. I’ve always valued my friendships, but have had to learn that not everything is meant to be held onto. This song represents that growth.”
Musically, “OPPosites” showcases a blend of influences that helped shape Hailey Hermida’s artistic identity. Inspired by the storytelling and performance-driven nature of punk and rock music, her sound continues to evolve through collaborations with GRAMMY®-nominated producer Riley Urick and co-songwriter Onique “Sparrow” Williams.
