In a heartfelt statement, Wils expresses, “My journey in music is complete. It has been a heartening ten-year ride that has taught me to live fearlessly as my authentic true self, and I am ready to now follow the ‘Dancing Lights’ to wherever they lead me.”
The inspiration behind “Dancing Lights”—produced by Steven Dresser—stems from profound personal experiences, particularly the loss of a dear friend, which propelled Wils to delve deep into self-discovery and healing. “The pain of losing someone so important in my life made me go deeper within to find out what was keeping me from being happy,” shares Wils. “It led me to the realization that now was the time to dedicate my energy into helping others heal.”
“Dancing Lights” envelops listeners in an uplifting dance experience with a nuanced exploration of emotions distinct from Wils’ earlier musical releases. Featuring ethereal vocal effects and a blend of vintage synths, the song narrates a poignant journey of self-discovery and acceptance amidst life’s highs and lows.
With an addicting vocal full of heartfelt emotion, Wils impresses with authenticity and self-empowerment. His belief in himself is the embodiment of the song, uplifting all who listen to the track. Full of confidence, Wils makes an illustrious impact to the end of his music career with one final say that will stay with us all.
Accompanying the single is the captivating music video for “Dancing Lights”, directed by Stro and filmed at iconic locations in Los Angeles like Matador Beach and City Walk. The visual artfully conveys themes of grief and resilience, illustrating a powerful journey of emerging from darkness into a state of acceptance and renewal. “I’m incredibly proud of the video,” Wils states. “It reflects on the beautiful times I shared with my friend and reminds me that even through the pain, I can embrace the love we once shared.”
Wils gained widespread acclaim with his breakout 2014 album, “WTF”, which earned him the title of Best Pop Album of the Year at the Hollywood F.A.M.E Awards. Following this success, he received notable nominations at the Los Angeles Music Awards, including Best Album and Pop Artist of the Year (Male). Additionally, his single “Less is More” was honoured with the Music Video of the Year award, recognised for its innovative fusion of technology, music, fashion, and artistry.
I performed my school’s annual talent contest in junior high. I was so terrible, it was funny. Everyone laughed and I did too, but I remember thinking to myself that if I could make people laugh with bad singing, I could get them crying with good. I taught myself the guitar and piano and the next year I went back on stage with an emotional song that got the tears flowing! It was then that I knew I wanted to change people’s lives through music.
Wils reflecting on his love for music at an early age
Expressing gratitude to his supporters, Wils acknowledges the unwavering belief of his fans and how they have always been there for him. “I am so grateful to all of the people who believed and stood by me since day one,” Wils mentions. “They were a shield from the music critics and skeptical label executives who were constantly schooling me on what pop stars could and couldn’t say or do.”
Looking towards the future, Wils leaves a touching and moving message with “Dancing Lights”. “Who knows where tomorrow may lead,” he muses, “but I am also no longer fearful of the unknown. My wish to all who listen to ‘Dancing Lights’ is that they be not afraid either and that they share the message with others.” Encouraging self-acceptance and kindness, Wils concludes, “We are all good enough – exactly how we are. Be kinder to self and know that you are loved.”
This last and final single marks a poignant conclusion to Wils’ musical odyssey, celebrating authenticity, resilience, self-empowerment, self-belief, and the transformative power of music.
