Sykamore has never shied away from tugging at heartstrings, and her latest single, “He’s Mine”, is no exception. Released last week, the emotional ballad captures a perspective rarely heard in country music, shining a light on the bond between mothers and sons. The heartfelt ballad has long been a highlight of her live shows, and now it’s getting its official moment following her recent single “Country Kid” earlier this year.

Produced by Bobby Campbell (known for being a Composer of Nashville, the TV show) and written by Sykamore herself, “He’s Mine” reflects her instinct for telling untold stories. The spark came at a family wedding, where she realised just how rarely music captures the bittersweet experience of a mother letting go of her son. The song fills that gap, painting a picture of love, pride, and change.

The soft guitar strings start the track off, complementing the heartfelt story behind the track. Sykamore’s gorgeous vocals add strength and emotion to every single word, flowing through beautiful notes with her awesome vocal twang that adds a country-inspired energy to this ballad track. Keeping the gentle vibes flowing throughout, this singer-songwriter impresses with the storytelling and the serenity she gifts to her listeners. “He’s Mine” stands out for all the right reasons and it’s no wonder fans have been requesting it for years.

Talking about the track, she said: “I couldn’t help but notice there is a lot of focus on the father giving his daughter away at a wedding, but people hardly ever speak of what a mother endures when she gives away her son. I have to imagine it’s just as hard, and just as much of a dynamic shift for a mom to go through that.”

Although fans have requested the song for years, Sykamore admits she hesitated to release it until she felt it was exactly right. After recording multiple versions, she has now settled on one that she feels does justice to the emotion behind the story.

“I’ve cut it about four times, with the intent to put it out,” she explained. “But each time there was some obstacle or another that made me second-guess myself. It’s a very special song to me, and I needed to be sure it was done perfectly before I turned it loose on the world.”

The release comes just in time for her return to the UK, where she’ll perform at The Long Road Festival from August 22–24. Known for blending timeless storytelling with a modern country-pop sound, Sykamore has steadily built a reputation for honest songwriting and captivating performances.

Her career so far includes the 2018 project “Self + Medicine”, the 2020 single “California King”, and her acclaimed 2022 album “Pinto”, which earned a nomination for “Album of the Year” at the 2023 Country Music Alberta Awards and has since racked up more than 10 million streams. Her 2020 single, “Doing Fine”, has raked in over 1.6 million Spotify streams. Other standout tracks like “Highway Towns”, “More Where That Came From”, and “Country Kid” have all helped to cement her as an artist to watch.

Sykamore’s journey from Calgary to Nashville has been marked by a series of milestones. Discovered by songwriter Rhett Akins in 2017, she went on to sign with his Home Team Publishing venture—a collaborative effort alongside Thomas Rhett, Virginia Davis, and Roc Nation/Warner Chappell. The years that followed saw her hit the road with the Eli Young Band, feature as part of CMT’s “Next Women of Country” initiative, and earn widespread exposure when “Go Easy On Me” was spotlighted on The Ty Bentli Show and in a nationwide Boot Barn campaign.

With “He’s Mine”, Sykamore continues to prove her gift for crafting songs that strike a chord with listeners. Fans in the UK will be among the first to hear it live when she takes the stage at The Long Road Festival this weekend.

“He’s Mine”, by Sykamore, is available to download and stream, right now, across all platforms. We expect more new music is around the corner, which we certainly cannot wait for.
