Max Vanderwolf continues to embrace artistic unpredictability with the release of his latest single, “Fuckwitt McGee”, which dropped on May 21 as part of his ongoing 2025 Vanderwolf Singles Club. This is the fourth instalment in his six-month release series, continuing Vanderwolf’s tradition of exploring new musical and conceptual ground with every track. This acts as the follow-up to his previous single “Twice in a Lifetime”.

Blending sharp satire with a deep dive into human behaviour, “Fuckwitt McGee” stands out as a tongue-in-cheek exploration of evolutionary patterns and societal missteps. At its core is a fictional figure who embodies the misinformed everyman—someone who stumbles through life making both laughable and catastrophic errors. From the trivial frustration of locking car keys inside a vehicle to the more dire implications of reckless decision-making with widespread consequences, the character is an exaggerated yet strangely familiar portrait of human clumsiness and foolishness.

“If this is the norm, then what is madness?” he ponders, highlighting the song’s introspective edge beneath its absurdist humour. With an edge of jazz throughout, this track shines as a standout mixing the relaxed vibes of a jazz bar with comical lyrics and his brilliant blazé tone. True to Vanderwolf’s experimental style, the track later develops into an indie pop-rock number that still has a jazzy undertone and a surprising kazoo instrumental section.

The track is inspired by British slang and storytelling traditions. “Living in the UK for many years, you quickly learn all the wonderfully disparaging terms: ‘chancer’, ‘wanker’, ‘knob’… and of course ‘fuckwitt’,” he explains. “I borrowed the surname McGee from Kris Kristofferson’s ‘Me and Bobby McGee’ and there you have it.”

Recorded in Camberwell, South London, the track brings together a vibrant group of musicians, with Chris Cordoba on guitar, Sam Sallon handling keys, and Will Muldrew on bass. Drummer Chris Wyles stands out with a bold, intricate rhythm that infuses the song with lively, double-time energy rooted in merengue. Alongside its intricate instrumentation and genre-spanning style, Vanderwolf weaves in unconventional touches that catch the ear—one in particular that’s as bold as it is unexpected.

With two more releases still to come in the series, this latest single feels like a pivotal moment in the artist’s current creative arc. It captures his ability to straddle humour and commentary with bold musicianship, all while refusing to be boxed into one genre.

Born in New York and currently based in Los Angeles, Max Vanderwolf has spent years cultivating a reputation as an artist unafraid to take risks. Splitting his time between LA and London, his career has been marked by continuous reinvention and collaborations with notable figures across the music industry—all while maintaining his independence from major label backing.

As this brand-new track joins the ever-expanding world of the Vanderwolf Singles Club, it affirms what fans have come to expect: smart, fearless music that’s as reflective as it is unconventional.

This new single is available to download and stream, right now, across all platforms, via Another Record Label.
