Another episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Series 5 saw the runway lights dim for yet another queen, Cara Melle. The unexpected elimination occurred after a fierce acting challenge, leaving fans on the edge of their seats and the competition more unpredictable than ever. This is the second elimination in a row where a front-runner has been sent packing, following Vicki Vivacious’ elimination in the previous week – both queens were the top two in the very first episode, going on to lip-sync for the win.
The episode began with the queens engaging in a puppet-themed mini-challenge, with front-runner Ginger Johnson securing a win. Her reward was the responsibility of casting for the main acting challenge, a parody extravaganza featuring three scenes: “Footballers’ Wags”, “Holedark”, and “Femmerdale”.
Despite the generally strong performances, the judges faced the daunting task of deciding who would be in the bottom two. Kate Butch took home the win, getting praised for her runway outfit for the very first time. In the end, it was Cara Melle who heard the fateful words to “sashay away” after a lip-sync battle with Michael Marouli to the iconic “Touch Me (I Want Your Body)” by Samantha Fox.
Guest judge Joel Dommett, alongside RuPaul, Michelle Visage, and Alan Carr, played a crucial role in the deliberations. Cara’s line delivery during the scenes with Michelle Visage became a pivotal point of criticism, leading to her unexpected exit.
In a teary farewell to RuPaul, Cara expressed gratitude for the transformative experience, stating, “This is an experience I’ve been dreaming of my whole life, thank you so much.” She left a lasting impression by quoting her Dionne Warwick Snatch Game performance – “I have one last thing to say… You’re welcome for my presence.”
While Cara bid farewell, Kate Butch emerged victorious with her first RuPeter badge, marking a turning point in the competition. As the remaining queens brace themselves for the next challenge, fans are left eagerly anticipating what surprises the Drag Race runway holds.
Stay tuned for the next episode, where the queens will tackle the makeover challenge which will see the queens transform volunteers from Switchboard – the UK’s oldest LGBT hotline, promising another round of fierce competition and unexpected moments.
