The latest eviction from the I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! 2023 jungle has caused quite a stir, with First Dates’ Fred Sirieix bidding farewell after a contentious episode that drew attention to his interactions with fellow campmates.
During the recent episode, Sirieix faced criticism over comments made towards campmate Sam Thompson, sparking discussions among viewers. After Nella Rose left, the deputy became the camp leader with Danielle Harold getting to sit on the red throne. She chose Josie Gibson as her deputy, and it was time to shuffle the camp’s roles. The selection of the camp chefs raised eyebrows as Sirieix appeared less concerned when Sam Thompson and Nick Pickard were chosen to prepare meals, in contrast to his reaction when Gibson took on the role. This discrepancy in attitude led some fans to label Sirieix as potentially misogynistic towards Gibson.
Adding to the controversy, Sirieix’s refusal to allow anyone else to accompany Marvin Humes on the “Fly on the Wall” bushtucker trial, denying viewers the anticipated team-up of Humes and Thompson, became a missed opportunity that disappointed many fans. Just imagine how much more fun that trial would’ve been with Thompson’s positive energy.
A belittling comment from Sirieix directed at Thompson, “You can carry on playing with your toys, we’ll do the men’s stuff,” drew sharp reactions from fans on social media platforms, with some labelling Sirieix as dismissive and potentially insensitive, particularly given Thompson’s ADHD and autism. Thompson is seen as a ray of sunshine every day in camp and is totally on track to becoming the King of the Jungle.
Despite the unfolding drama, Sirieix found himself in the bottom two alongside former EastEnders actress Harold during the eviction segment of the episode, ultimately leading to his departure from the jungle. In other events from the show, we also got to see The Jungle Arms open its doors based upon Thompson, Gibson, and Tony Bellew completing secret tasks. We got to witness the celebrities drink the night away accompanied by unforgettable karaoke sessions.
Reflecting on his time in the jungle, Sirieix expressed, “I’ve loved living in the moment and not thinking about what’s happening next.” He notably discussed the challenges faced with camp meals and addressed the VT that captured his concerns about Gibson’s culinary skills, stating, “She doesn’t know what she does in the kitchen. There’s a lot at stake with the food.”
Throughout the series, Sirieix engaged in lively exchanges, notably with controversial politician Nigel Farage, revealing a facet of his personality that didn’t align with certain viewpoints. Despite acknowledging the potential for cooperation within the camp, Sirieix remained firm about his inability to connect with certain aspects of Farage’s ideology.
Asked who he wanted to win the series, Sirieix vocalised support for Thompson to take the crown which is the exact same answer that previous eliminated celebrities, Frankie Dettori and Rose, both said.
Although this makes Sirieix the third evictee, following Dettori and Rose, two previous celebrities left due to medical reasons with Grace Dent and Jamie Lynn Spears leaving just days after one another. We’re interested to see if they both turn up for the finale of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! 2023, especially as Spears popped up at the finale of Dancing With The Stars – the reality show she was a part of before the ITV1 series; a show she was eliminated from in week two, and so, in turn, signed up to the British TV show even though the American dancing show hadn’t even finished.
I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2023 continues to captivate audiences, airing Sunday to Friday at 9 PM and Saturday at 9.30 PM on ITV1 with catch-up being available on ITV1+1 and ITVX. You can follow all of this year’s campmates on social media by checking out our article here.
